Word Finder
Find every word that can be made from a set of letters, or solve an anagram, using the public-domain ENABLE dictionary.
Find words from your letters
How to use it
- Type your letters, up to 15. Use
?for a blank that can stand for any letter. - Leave the box unticked to find every word that can be made from some of your letters, or tick it to find only exact anagrams that use all of them.
- Narrow the results with a starting or ending sequence, a sequence anywhere in the word, or an exact length.
- Results are grouped by length, longest first.
About the dictionary
This tool uses ENABLE, the Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon: 172,823 English words placed in the public domain by Alan Beale. Public domain matters here, because it is what makes it lawful to send the list to your browser at all.
It is not an official tournament word list. Competitive play uses Collins or TWL/NWL, which are commercial and licensed. They overlap heavily with ENABLE but are not identical, so a word accepted here may not be accepted in a rated game, and occasionally the reverse. Treat results as a strong guide, not a ruling.
What it does not do
- No scores. Tile values belong to particular commercial games, so no score is shown or implied.
- No board awareness. It works from a set of letters, not from a position in a game.
- No definitions. ENABLE is a list of valid spellings and carries no meanings with it.
- Words of 16 letters or more are not searched, because 15 letters is the longest rack accepted and nothing longer could be formed from it.
- Very long results are trimmed for display. The full count is always shown, even when the list is cut short.

Common questions
- Which dictionary does this use?
- ENABLE, the Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon — 172,823 English words, released into the public domain by its author, Alan Beale. It is the standard choice for tools like this because it can be redistributed freely, and it is the word list behind several well-known word games.
- Is this the official word list for tournament play?
- No. Official tournament play uses Collins or TWL/NWL depending on where you are, and both are commercial lists that cannot be redistributed. ENABLE overlaps with them heavily but is not the same: some words valid in a tournament are missing here, and a few here would be rejected there. If a result matters for a competitive game, check it against the list that game uses.
- What does the blank do?
- A
?stands for any single letter, like a blank tile. Enteringca?finds cab, cad, can, cap and so on. You can use more than one, though each blank widens the results considerably. - Why does the first search take a moment?
- The dictionary has to be downloaded before anything can be searched, and that happens on your first search rather than when the page loads, so visitors who are only reading never pay for it. Only the part that can match is fetched: a word needs at least as many letters as it has, so a seven-letter search downloads words of two to seven letters and ignores the rest. After that it stays in memory and searches are instant.
- Why is there a limit of 15 letters?
- Because the dictionary shipped to your browser stops at 15-letter words. A word can only be made from a rack at least as long as it is, so beyond 15 letters there would be nothing further to find. Longer words do exist in ENABLE and are deliberately left out as unreachable.
- Are my letters sent anywhere?
- No. The dictionary is downloaded to your browser and the search runs there. Celveri has no upload endpoint and no database, and the letters you type never leave the page.
